PROCEDURES
MONDAYS
On Mondays the homework folder will go home. Homework for Language Arts and Math will be sent home each week. All homework is due on Friday; please have your child bring it in only on Friday, not beforehand. If your child finishes his/her homework early, feel free to review the finished homework or provide extra practice, should you decide your child may benefit from this. You can check out my links/games section for some motivating activiities! Mondays are a good day for volunteer buddy folder-stuffers to come in the afternoon.
TUESDAYS
On Tuesdays the buddy folders will go home. These are black plastic folders. Usually there is a "Keep" side and "Return" side. Should you choose to return anything, leave it filled out in the buddy folder and keep/dispose of the rest.
FRIDAYS
All homework is due on Friday. Please contact me during the week anytime via email if you have any questions about homework. Fridays are a great day for volunteer buddy folder-stuffers or homework folder-stuffers to come in the afternoon.

Discipline/Behavior System
We use a stick chart method in first grade. Each child has a class number, and that number is on his/her sticks for the year. Each child begins the day with a green, a yellow, and a red stick. After a child is given a verbal warning s/he pulls his/her green stick. If s/he needs to be spoken to again, the yellow stick is pulled and I will attempt to contact you either via email (primarily) or via phone/phone message. If a child needs to be spoken to a third time, the red stick is pulled, a referral sheet is filled out and s/he is sent to the office temporarily. You will also be contacted either before or while your child is in the office that s/he is there. Between sticks, sometimes it will also be appropriate to send a child to another classroom for a brief time out with another teacher, or to have the child sit at an "island" desk alone for a time to calm down.
